“Can better living units and environments be created for refugees and indigenous people?” In response to the question, the Cities of Hope project was launched for ITU together with the Design Club, Perkins+Will and Hasan Kalyoncu University.
In this project, which focused on students producing sustainable solutions focusing on a real problem, research was conducted on how alternative living units to containers can be designed and produced. We visited the refugee camps in Nizip and the city of Gaziantep to see the problem on site, and it was understood that the problem was essentially an urban integration problem. Thereupon, an urban model that could be designed according to sudden social movements and would be implemented in the developing regions of the city was studied. Ideas were generated on how the spent resources could be recovered socially, infrastructurally and culturally.
